Wishlist Top 5...with a few modifications

This was a feature I had on my old blog that I'd update each time I crossed an item off my wishlist. It really helps me keep things in perspective as to which items are love and which are merely flirting with me. The problem is, I've been having trouble deciding! It's kind of like having people over for game night and playing charades, Twister, and Monopoly, and then saying "okay, who's the best game player?" You couldn't possibly choose because everyone's good at different things. That's how I feel when trying to decide between new Fall items and the Spring and Summer items I still love, but haven't quite brought home with me yet. So, since I'm in a Fall mood and can't really choose between my Spring, Summer, and Fall loves, I'm just going to do a Top 5 for Fall:

5. Peppered and Striped Skirt

Hello, pretty thing. Say, I know of a cute little apartment in Charleston that's calling your name...interested? Seriously, isn't it adorable? As you could guess from the rainy day post, I'm a sucker for polka dots. Here's hoping it's at the Myrtle Beach Anthro (which I'll be visiting next weekend-look out for a boatload of reviews!)

4. Perfectly Plaid Tights/Pointelle Tights

I have no tights...*hides face* it's so embarrassing! I never had a desire to wear them until I discovered the Anthro blogs and saw how all the other bloggers paired them. Then I had to get myself a pair...or two! These two will both be coming my way as soon as the whether gets a little colder.

3. Cream Confection Jacket/Elkanah Jacket

See previous post

2. River Bow Necklace

I know this isn't a Fall item, but there are 505335353.2 things in my closet that would look fantastic with this necklace, including my favorite Anthro purchase ever, the Sugar and Cream dress (yeah yeah I was bad and bought it, but I'm being good and not wearing it until my birthday as promised. I was just worried it'd get sold out ala the Southern Chorus Shirtdress, which still haunts me as a missed opportunity).

1. Bianka Blouse

I didn't realize I needed this blouse until I saw it on Kathryn of In Pursuit of Pretty Things. Then I realized I'd found a new number one wishlist item. It looks phenomenal on her! And since we're close in size, I hope it will look good on me too! I'm partial to the blue motif myself, thankfully. The black motif is probably long gone. Please, please, please stick around until I can afford you, pretty blouse!

And just in case you're curious:

Spring Wishlist:

Ruffled Riceflower Tank
Southern Chorus Shirtdress (boo hoo hoo, I'm pretty sure I missed the boat on this one. Anyone who sees it in a 2 or 4 PLEASE let me know!)
Looping Lanes Belt
Tucked Away Blooms Cardi
Curlytop Cardi (number 1 item on Spring Wishlist)

Summer Wishlist:

Vappu Dress (I know I'm so behind...)
Tea Time Earrings (which will be mine the minute they go on sale. There's no way I can wear anything else with the Sugar and Cream dress at my tea party birthday :)).

Rain, rain, and mean drivers, but I have an outfit!

Since the sky was gray today with another rainy day, I decided to brighten things up with my absolute favorite heels. They're the most (read: only) truly comfortable heels I own (and for 40 dollars at Rackroom nonetheless!), and such a cheery red color! Turns out this was a very, very bad idea, as I got sprayed by a car on my way home from work (at which the inconsiderate driving promptly laughed his head off...jerk). So my hair's a fluffy, frizzy mess after I dried it off and my beautiful shoes are soaked :(. Last time I go out in the rain in my favorite heels!

Air Mail Skirt: Anthro
Climbing Cowlneck Shirt: Anthro
(wet) Shoes (boo hoo...): Rack Room
Laurette Headband: Anthro
Earrings: Mirror Mirror

Oh well, they'll dry, but in the picture they seem a little darker than they are normally. A gallon of water tends to do that!

Off to take an LSAT, read about the 2004 election for Campaign Politics and treat myself to some yummy frozen yogurt (why yes there will be pictures:)).

Jackets, jackets everywhere, but not a day to wear them

So this morning marked a momentous occasion: it was sort of kind of cooler out! Well, enough to where I felt a little chilly after taking off my cardigan. Fall doesn't usually come for us until early October, which makes me all kinds of sad. I love Fall, with its caramel apple cider, changing leaves, cinnamon smells, and of course, pretty Fall clothes.

This year, though, I'm saying goodbye to a well-loved item: my Old Navy black jacket. We've had three and a half good years together, but it's become a little ragged. For 30 bucks, I'm just glad it lasted this long.

The good news is I now have an excuse to search for a new jacket! Even better, since the weather is still pretty warm down here, most of the early Fall jackets will be on sale by the time I need one. Anthro has some great options I have my eye on, but first I'm going to jot down my criteria:

Not dressy, but not overtly casual. Let me first say that I really did love my Old Navy jacket, very comfy womfy. But since it was so cheap I...erm...may have abused it a little. I wore it all the time, especially when I was sick, and I wasn't afraid to sneeze on it (TMI, I know). I even slept in it a few times when it was really cold in the dorms. So this time I'd like to invest a little more money in my jacket, making it last longer and giving me more of an incentive to take care of it. I still have a budget, of course, and I'm only interested in buying on sale.

Dark Two reasons: Cream, neutral, beige, etc. all wash me out (as you've seen from the previous pictures, I'm paler than a snowman in a blizzard). Also they get really dirty in the city, and I'm not a high maintenance girl who'll dry clean her jackets every week. It doesn't have to be black, but if it's a color it should be a deep shade.

Other than that, I'm flexible. Here are a few that've caught my eye:

Elkanah Jacket (on sale for $70)

Casual and cute, and already on sale? I'm one happy girl! But is it too lightweight? Even in Charleston it can get pretty cold.

Cream Confection Jacket (black, $178)

This one looks much heavier and I love the ruffles! But will the wool be too itchy? And even on sale it'll be pricier than the first one.

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Have a great week!

Rainy Days and Mondays Never Get Me Down

It hasn't really rained down here in about three weeks (if you're not counting intermittent sprinkles), but when it rains, it pours. But I didn't mind, because that gave me an excuse to breakout my rarely worn raincoat and rainboots!

Sorry for the poor quality pics, my lens was really dirty. I'm gonna clean it tonight so the pics will be better next time.

I love rainwear, and in Charleston it's not just a fashion statement. Boots are a necessity for anyone who dares to defy the weather by wearing jeans. Unless you particularly enjoy stomping around in wet, soggy denim...yuck. Students at the college make jokes about swimming to class...except they're not really jokes. Our elevation is really low, so we're prone to flooding. Piles of water slosh into the road, holding up traffic for literally hours. Thank goodness I only use my car sparingly and can walk to my classes and work!

Closeup of the hat! I love love love the polka dot print on the raincoat. Polka dots are my favorite pattern, but I sadly don't own a lot of dotted items.

The boots are polka dotted too!

The next set of pics will be better, promise! Stay dry!

Anthro in the Farmer's Market Pt 2. (Plus an Outfit+Cupcakes!)

Evening! As promised, here are the rest of the pics from the Farmer's Market:

And what did I get?

Breakfast: A croissant and "Snowzen" lemonade. I wouldn't call it Snowzen since it was mostly liquid, but it was the perfect combo of sweet and sour with a lot of lemony flavor.

Annnnnd:

Fresh strawberries. Don't they look fabulous?? They taste so sweet and juicy. I'll only get them at one particular stand because they come in a plastic box instead of a basket. The basket is cute, but the box keeps the strawberries fresher longer.

Afterward I went to one of my other favorite Charleston places with my friend Sarah.

Three guesses as to what they sell.

These are the best cupcakes in Charleston, no contest. I got the double chocolate lemon...

And Sarah got the peach-blueberry cobbler...

Whose do you think looks the yummiest?

And this is what I wore on my little outing of deliciousness:

Shirt: Buds and Bunches Tee, Anthro
Shorts: Ralph Lauren
Earrings: Target

And the shoes deserve a separate picture of their own. These are my absolute favorite shoes and the only ones I own that are as comfy as they are cute. I think they look like something Galinda from Wicked would wear.

Shoes: Dillard's

That's all for now! More outfits and Charlestonian pics tomorrow!

Anthro in the Farmer's Market and an Outfit! Pt. 1

Welcome!

It's no accident that I started this blog on a Saturday. That's the day of Charleston's weekly Farmers Market!

The fountain at Marion Square

From April to December, vendors show off their fresh fruits and veggies, arts and crafts, and other goodies for Charlestonians to purchase. Of course, I'm a frequent visitor. As soon as I walk into Marion Square I'm overloaded with senses. You can hear the band playing from all the way up at Calhoun and St. Phillips, and the first thing you see are the brightly colored blow up slides for kids. The smells of the flowers and spices are everywhere, and the music doesn't overshadow the roar of the crowd. Barking dogs, shrieking kids, and patrons of fresh produce all come out to enjoy one of my favorite Charleston traditions.

I admit, sometimes I'm jealous. I wish I had come to Charleston young enough to play on the slides!

The sign says "No Fat." Nooooooot sure I quite believe that ;)

Local band, not sure of the name. The guy on the left was looking at me until I got out of my camera, then he immediately looked away. Aw, camera shy!

You say "tomato," I say "tomatoh!" Even if you're not a tomato fan you have to admit these are pretty.

What did I wear and what did I buy? What's the name of this blog again? Of course there was Anthro involved, but I didn't want to overload on photos in the first post, so stay tuned for Pt. 2!

Life in the World of Rhett Butler

I’m going into my senior year of college in Charleston, South Carolina. After this year, I’ll be leaving the state for law school. This blog is dedicated to my five loves: family, friends, food, photography and Anthropologie, and I’m going to use it to document my final days in Charleston. Expect outfits, reviews, and pictures of all the places I frequent as a temporary Charlestonian.
